My cousin Mava J. Day was the first to suggest that the cumulative experiences of the work of translation of the Thai Book of Mormon be brought together in book form. Without her suggestion I may have never pursued writing this book.

Several missionaries who served in Thailand assisted me in finding those missionaries who worked on the translation of the Book of Mormon. Among them (who are not listed above): John Brady, Dean Brown, John R. Grange, Glade Jarman, Natthamon Limsukon, Hal Merritt, Jay Montgomery, Roger Pace, Steve Stevens, and Mongkol Tungmala.

Betty Morris, wife of Paul D. Morris who was the first president of the Thailand Bangkok Mission used the records that she and her husband kept to find several items of historical interest and to validate other portions of the history of the Thailand Bangkok Mission.

Wisit Khanakham and Wisan Wisanbannawit provided information about the current state of the church in Thailand, as well as photographs of all the mission presidents and their wives (except President Dodge). Wisit also provided comments about Sister Srilaksana's work in translation.

Former presidents of the Thailand Bangkok Mission provided information regarding highlights of the years in which they led missionary work in Thailand. This group includes: Troy L. Corriveau, Michael A. Goodman, Scott F. Hansen, Martin R. Slater and Larry R. White. Presidents White and Corriveau provided detailed information on the beginnings of missionary work in Cambodia as detailed in the Epilogue. All of the mission presidents from 1988 forward were contacted and invited to provide materials for this book.

Mark Clark who served a mission in Germany assisted with the spellings and pronunciations of the proper names for key individuals in the New Testament as found in the German Bible.

Former co-workers at Novell Inc. Mark Clark, John Aurich and Glendon Davis read early versions of the manuscript as I was attempting to determine the interest level among those people who had no personal ties to Thailand. They all provided useful feedback on the book's content.

My aunt, Verna Probst, reviewed two drafts and provided useful changes, but more importantly she also provided encouragement.

The Midvalley 5th Ward gospel doctrine class in the year 2000 with whom I first shared a collection my experiences and other events in the translation process during our study of the Book of Mormon.

My wife Sherry and my four children Robert, Jared, Michael and Angela who tolerated the numerous hours I was involved in the production of this book and offered encouragement along the way.

Richard Teichert provided several items of information regarding the progress of translation work during 1970. Receipt of his information caused me to rewrite much of chapter 6. Because of his information I'm now quite confident about what happened during that first year of the translation effort.

Gene Platt provided me with copies of the former publications Orientor (published by the Southern Far East Asia mission) and Echo Asia (published by the Southeast Asia Mission). These publications confirmed several aspects of the mission's history and allowed me gain a better idea of the number of members baptized in Thailand prior to my arrival in 1973. He also provided his personal experience with the deaths of Elders Huntington and Willis as well as experiences serving on the translation committee.

Joseph Wall and Marvin Neff provided most of the material regarding the visit to Sukhothai in 1972, and the resulting trial and imprisonment of missionaries in Nakhon Sawan. I am especially grateful that Joseph Wall agreed to review and discuss that section of Chapter 4, providing first hand knowledge that only he has in his possession.

Among those missionaries who did not work on the translation of the Thai Book of Mormon, Ben Crowder, Dennis Sowards and Larry White made the largest contributions to this book.

The most fortunate event that happened during the preparation of the manuscript occurred when Ben Crowder volunteered to assist in the production of the book. Ben served as a missionary in Thailand (2002-2004). He created the cover design as well as the page layouts for the entire book. He filled the role of "editor" and enhanced the quality of text in both form and function. He contributed the enhanced transliteration of the Thai words into English and provided "Appendix H". Ben also enabled me to contact Rikker Dockum and Jean-Michel Carter who provided insights into recent translation efforts in Thailand. The great look and feel of the final product is largely due to his efforts and expertise.

Dennis Sowards contributed many things toward this effort including: (1) helping me find several missionaries who worked on translation, (2) providing information regarding the deaths of Elders Huntington and Willis, and (3) providing the story regarding how the name of the church had to be changed when the translators arrived at 1 Nephi 14.

Larry R. White, one of the first 6 missionaries to serve in Thailand, provided important material for chapters 1, 2 and the Epilogue. He personally experienced the first days of missionary work in Thailand and Sister Srilaksana's conversion. Over the years he has done many things to help Sister Srilaksana and her children. Later (1991-1994) he returned to Thailand to serve as mission president. He provided the information on the blessing Elder Neal A. Maxwell left on Thailand in 1992, and the opening of missionary work in Cambodia. Larry was my mentor for the development of the entire book. We often exchanged email and at times phone calls to discuss various aspects. When I did not know how or if I should discuss some subjects, Larry was always there to give me counsel, advice and encouragement. Without his support this book may have never been completed.

Most important of all contributors is Srilaksana Suntarahut the principal translator of the Thai Book of Mormon. In many ways this book is her life story. She spent hours with me on the phone sharing her personal life experiences and clarifying many events whose details had just been stories I had heard over the years. Her testimony of the Book of Mormon has brought the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ to the lives of thousands of Thai members and assisted them in maintaining their testimonies. As the principal translator of the Thai Book of Mormon she is the only person who experienced the whole process from start to finish. The opportunity I had to work with her on the translation of the Book of Mormon and her continuing friendship will always be cherished in my life. Truly Sister Srilaksana Suntarahut is a royal daughter of God.
